Shabby books need not be relegated to the dustbin! This mini-session teaches two introductory techniques useful for anyone interested in basic book repair. Students will first learn to stabilize and improve damaged corners on books. Next students will embark on a simple yet effective technique for re-establishing a loose text into its cover. Students are welcome to bring their own books as these books can be used during the mini-session if their problems match up to the techniques being taught. Otherwise, there will be ample suitably damaged books available at class.
Instructor: Jill Deiss is the owner and senior binder for Cat Tail Run Hand Bookbinding (est. 1991) of Winchester, Virginia. She also operates The School for Bookbinding Arts which teaches a wide range of classes on bookbinding and its kindred arts.
